【設系宗旨】

我國自加入國際貿易組織(WTO)以來，與世界各國經貿互動日益頻繁。此外，各國為加強與鄰近國家之間的經貿關係，於是區域性經貿組織(RTA)，則又紛紛興起。「東協加三」與日本提出的「東亞自由貿易區」，主要目的都在於希望成立東亞地區的自由貿易區，以加強彼此間的貿易關係，以對抗EU及NAFTA的競爭。台灣處在這樣競爭劇烈的東亞經貿局勢當中，全球化的腳步已是刻不容緩。為求與世界緊密接軌，必須培養兼具語文與當地國情之充分了解之涉外能力之人才獻身投入，以利國家對外關係之長遠發展。本系為因應此一攸關國家未來長遠發展的局勢，首創以區域主要國家語文教學方式，課程兼具語文及社會科學兩大學程並重之設計。進行以東亞區域之語言、政治、經濟、社會發展等課題為研究及人才培育之科系。
